THE EXPERIENCE

Watching the Key West sunset from the water

Key West is world-famous for its sunsets — and there is simply no better place to watch one than from the deck of a private boat on the open water. While the crowds gather on Mallory Square, your group will be out on the Gulf watching the sky turn orange, pink, and gold with nothing but water around you.

Every sunset cruise with Captain Rio is 100% private. No sharing the boat with other groups, no tour boat crowds, no schedule that doesn't suit you. Rio will find the perfect spot on the water and let the evening unfold at your pace. Bring your own drinks, snacks, and music — the boat is yours for the evening.

The 32 ft Stamas offers plenty of deck space to spread out, relax at the bow, or sit back in the cabin. It's an ideal setup for couples celebrating a special occasion, families with kids, bachelorette groups, or anyone looking for a truly memorable Key West evening on the water.

Sunset cruises depart from Hurricane Hole Marina in Key West approximately 90 minutes before sunset. Captain Rio monitors conditions daily and will select the best vantage point on the water for that evening's show.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Key West sunset cruise FAQ

What time does the sunset cruise depart?
Departure time varies by season based on when the sun sets. Captain Rio will confirm your exact departure time when you book. Generally you'll be on the water 90 minutes before sunset to find the perfect spot and get settled before the show begins.

Can we bring food and drinks on the sunset cruise?
Absolutely — you're encouraged to bring whatever you'd like to eat and drink. There's a cooler on board and plenty of deck space to set up. Many groups bring wine, champagne, or beer along with snacks or a light meal to make an evening of it.

Is the Key West sunset cruise good for special occasions?
It's one of the best ways to celebrate in Key West. The sunset cruise is popular for anniversaries, proposals, birthdays, bachelorette parties, and family reunions. Because it's fully private, the whole experience is tailored to your group — no strangers, no rush.

Is the sunset cruise suitable for kids?
Yes — families with children are very welcome. The 32 ft Stamas is a stable, spacious boat and Captain Rio is great with kids. It's a wonderful way for the whole family to experience Key West together.

What if it's cloudy on the evening of our cruise?
Key West sunsets are often spectacular even with some cloud cover — clouds add color and drama to the sky. If conditions are genuinely poor or unsafe, Captain Rio will contact you to discuss rescheduling options.

Can we combine the sunset cruise with another activity?
Yes — the 4-hour extended cruise is a great option if you want to add a sandbar stop, some snorkeling, or light fishing before the sunset. Just let Captain Rio know when booking and he'll plan the afternoon around your group's interests.
